97 and counting

Into my second week with my first Hospice patient. She is in a nursing home and what a eye opener for me this has been. She has two daughters that don't live here. One lives in Whictia and the other Arizona. I try and go see her over lunch time to help feed her. She really is not wanting to eat or drink. Last week there was a older man in his wheel chair that was trying to fist fight another resident. He would not let go of this other ladies chair and had his fist pulled back and going to punch her. Well, me being me I said, "hay come hold on to my chair" he looked at me funny and said, "I will shoot you!!" I laughed and said well I have been working out this week and feeling a little strong. He looked at me funny and started to let go of this other lady's chair. Not knowing what in the hell I had just got myself into. He let go of the chair and the worker pulled the other lady away fast and here he came. I was thinking well I really don't want to get kicked out of here so I better behave myself. He is a poor defenceless man in a wheel chair ( I would have never hurt him) well not to bad, just kidding. About that time the head nurse, which is a big lady walked up and handed him a wash cloth and told him to wipe his face he had food all over it and I would not kiss him if he had food all over his face!!! I laughed so hard I think I wet my pants!!! Every time I go there I always leave with a smile on my face from something funny that has happened. I'm so thankful for this opportunity to make someone feel special. And by the way my lady is 97 years old.
